Stop Wasting Money on Textbooks — You Can Now Rent from Amazon

Amazon has always been a college student’s best friend, offering ways to save on text books as well as many other college necessities. Now, Amazon is taking that relationship even further with their new textbook rental service.

Amazon now offers students four ways to purchase textbooks: new, used, rental, and eTextbook. All of these options save students anywhere from 30 to 90 percent on their college books, which is money college students definitely need.

Why Rent?

The reasons behind renting a text book are the same as why you would rent anything else – you just don’t have money to buy it outright. If you don’t have the cash to buy a textbook, why not pay smaller installment while you are using it? If you are taking a class and know you will never need the book afterwards, why waste money buying a brand new book?

With the Amazon rental service, you are guaranteed a book that is in good condition. You keep the book only for the semester you are using it (130 days) and then ship it back free of charge. You end up with a hefty college book from your movement marketing class no longer taking up space, and you’re left with more money in your wallet.

How Does it Work?

You can search for the book you need on Amazon using the ISBNs. The shipping rates for the textbooks are the same as any other Amazon product, and they are eligible for the Free Super Saver Shipping on orders over $25. You can also get free two-day shipping by joining the Amazon Student Program.

You will receive a new textbook or a used book that is in good condition. You keep the book for 130 days, and if you need an extension, you can request to keep the book for 15 more days or even another semester online. At any point during the rental, you can choose to purchase the book from Amazon.com if you wish. When returning the book, you access your rental library on Amazon and print out the packaging slip and return label. Then, just pack your book up and take it to the post office! Shipping is free with the provided label.

Will You Really Save Money?

Renting textbooks from Amazon can save you up to 70 percent off of retail price. All of Amazon’s textbook options can save you money in different ways. When you purchase a textbook from Amazon brand new, you save an initial 30 percent and then have the option of selling the book back. When you buy used, you can save up to 90 percent.

If you want to save money on textbooks this semester, and don’t like having a lot of books lying around when you’re done, renting from Amazon could be a good option for you. Tell your friends and start a movement against paying big bucks for textbooks.
